La Trobe Valley Project, Moe
A much-needed new home for a family in the La Trobe Valley
The Victorian Homeless Fund is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Sherridon Homes and Brilley Co that will provide a safe, permanent home for a family fleeing domestic violence in Gippsland. Construction began on July 4th for this purpose-built residence in Moe, which will be gifted to Women’s Property Initiatives (WPI) upon completion in early 2026. This project represents more than just shelter—it’s a foundation for recovery, stability, and hope for a family seeking safety from violence.
“We all know that homelessness in Victoria, especially for women and children fleeing family violence, is at crisis levels,” says VHF Chairwoman Colleen May. “At the Victorian Homeless Fund, we don’t just talk about it. We act. This home represents a chance to break the cycle of homelessness and give a family a future.” The thoughtfully designed dual-key dwelling features a main home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a fully serviced one-bedroom villa under the same roof, providing flexibility for various living arrangements including teenage independence or live-in support workers.
This project showcases the power of community collaboration, with Loy Yang B Power Station and Alinta Energy providing $130,000 to fund the build, while approximately $220,000 worth of donations from consultants, suppliers, and construction trades represent 60% of the total build cost. Constructed on land donated by the Payton Foundation, the project leverages a partnership with the Housing Industry Association and its member builders and suppliers who donate their time, expertise, and all materials needed to create a move-in ready home. Special security considerations include a complete alarm system, security cameras, and reinforced doors throughout, ensuring peace of mind for residents and caseworkers alike.
The home will also feature premium fixtures, finishes, and 7-Star energy efficiency, with local builder Sherridon Homes and Brilley Co undertaking construction at cost price.
